Biography

Born in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Dr. Tamlyn Govender has become known as one of South Africa’s leading Ayurvedic doctors. Being trained in both classical Ayurveda as well as Integrative Medicine, she is able to take on some of the most challenging cases of chronic disease including auto-immune diseases, neuro-degenerative conditions, chronic infections (HIV, Hepatitis, etc.), and more.

Incorporating modern diagnostic skills together with science-based herbal treatment, Dr. Govender brings Ayurvedic Medicine to a new forefront, proving that not only can a natural approach be safer, but also extremely beneficial in relieving symptoms of diseases that have long been deemed “difficult to treat”.

Dr. Tamlyn Govender matriculated from The Glen High School, in Pretoria East, in 2007. She originally began her tertiary education by pursuing a degree in Psychology at the University of Pretoria. Within the first year of her studies, due to her desire to heal people, she decided to take a path less travelled and pursued one of the most complex medical sciences, Ayurvedic Medicine.

In 2008, she applied to Gujarat Ayurved University, in India, to join the “Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine Program”, also known as the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S) degree. She completed this qualification in 6 years with an internship in two reputable hospitals including one of the world’s largest Research hospitals for Alternative medicine known as the International Post-Graduate Training and Research Association (IPGT & RA) in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

During this period, she also decided to pursue a career in Life Coaching and Yoga Therapy. She obtained a Certification in Life coaching from Symbiosis Coaching through distance learning from British Columbia, Canada, and completed a course in the Foundation of Yoga Therapy. She also received extensive training in Yogic management of disease, Basics Principles of Naturopathy, and In-depth diagnostic pulse assessment.

Between 2021 to 2022, she received in-depth training on Holistic Guidance for Cancer, Heart Disease, and Diabetes via Niramaya Ayurvedic Research & Consultancy PVT. LTD

Incorporating Ayurvedic Medicine, Yoga Therapy, Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) and Life Coaching, Dr. Tamlyn Govender offers her patients more than a medical consultation, but a more holistic experience, leaving them with medicine for their condition, education about their health, and motivation to follow a healthier lifestyle.

Dr. Tamlyn Govender is also a well-published physician having written for national publications such as The Post Newspaper as well as Molshoop Magazine. She has also published research works such as “Occupational Lifestyle Diseases – An Emerging Issue” in the journal PunarnaV – an international peer-reviewed journal for Ayurvedic medicine. She also co-authored a study that was carried out by Proctor & Gamble Health titled “Treatment of the common cold with herbs used in Ayurveda and JAMU: Monograph Review & The Science of Ginger, Licorice, Turmeric, and Peppermint” which was published in the Journal of Ayurveda & Integrative Medicine.

She also served as a professional board member for the Professional Board for Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine, and Unani (PBACMU) for the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa for the time period 2015 to 2022.

Dr. Tamlyn Govender is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa to practice Ayurveda in the country. Her Ayurvedic practice is located in Pretoria, where she offers a wide range of treatments including Panchakarma, a well-known group of therapies used for treating complicated illnesses which are resistant to regular treatment protocols. She also incorporates practices such as yogic therapy in her treatments, in order to speed up recovery and improve overall health as well as Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) to work through unresolved trauma and stress that may be hampering one’s ability to heal from chronic illnesses.
